Project description
Located in Outremont, the Querbes residence is a complete renovation of a single-family home built in the early 20th century. From the very first visit to the site, the residence's unique features became an integral part of the project's conceptual direction. Architectural elements such as the staircase, plaster mouldings and fireplace mantel were to be preserved and enhanced.
Formerly partitioned, the kitchen now opens onto the dining room and other living spaces on the first floor. One of the major interventions was the relocation of the access to the basement. In keeping with the classic style of the staircase, the new access now blends in seamlessly with the original structure.
The kitchen is clear and simple, and becomes the key element of the open-plan layout. The use of grey enhances the unique texture of the natural stone. The combination of lacquer and marble countertop creates an ambience of sober tones. The stone-covered peninsula gives the impression of a ribbon enveloping the cabinets and creates the effect of a block from the point of view of the entrance.
