Project description
Interior design studio Vives St-Laurent has completed the offices of the Dime organization. Based in Montreal, the company contributes to the development of the skateboarding community through the production of videos, clothing and collaborations with renowned brands.
The mandate was to relocate the company's clothing warehouse and conceptualize a workplace for their team. The company's new headquarters is located in the heart of Mile End's former industrial sector. Airy and simple, the space features several open and closed areas, allowing for collaboration. At the entrance to the suite, there's a vast common area comprising the checkroom, lounge and kitchen.
"We wanted the kitchen to be at the heart of the space so that it could be used as a meeting place for the different teams. We concealed the equipment to create a minimal kitchen and break with the traditional codes of the office space," explains Lysanne St-Laurent, Co-Founder of Vives St-Laurent. The design of the kitchen thus focuses on the large steel island table, an informal meeting space and a place for the team to socialize.
Connected to the entrance and kitchen are two meeting rooms of different sizes. The larger, with a capacity of ten to twelve people, is designed to facilitate daily reviews by the design and development team. The second has a flexible layout that can be adapted to the team's needs. It comprises a sofa, an accent chair and a table for four. The use of residential-style furniture accentuates the room's comfort and contributes to the office's relaxed atmosphere. In fact, team members participated in a preliminary survey produced by the design team.
What emerges is that Dime is a fun, progressive and relaxed enterprise. Artefacts and merchandise collected over the years can be seen throughout the space: shoes, construction helmets, photographs, trophies and sculptures grace the premises. The office thus becomes a neutral canvas to let the personality of the brand, renowned for its humor and innovative concepts, speak for itself.
The integration of vintage pieces such as the Roche Bobois sofa, mid-century tables and chairs, and the rosewood bookcase create a singular, sought-after ambience. These unique pieces contrast with the contemporary furniture selected by Vives St-Laurent. An open-plan work area extends along the large bay windows of the mountain-facing, single-storey building. This area leads to three closed rooms: two offices and a meeting room. Concealed by the technical block, the design area is a vast workshop-like space, featuring a large table for measuring patterns, a material library and garment racks.
The sober aesthetic of the head office reveals the industrial essence of the site, while adding a personalized touch that reflects the company's values, centered on a culture that favors a collaborative, family-oriented environment that values commitment and participation (clan culture). Dime offers a place that promotes creativity and team development.
