Project description

The renovation of the Louis-Hébert residence, located in the Rosemont district of Montreal, is distinguished by its clarity and simplicity. Originally a duplex, its conversion was meticulously planned by the architects who carried out the first renovations 15 years ago. The mandate thus demonstrates an adaptation of the existing structure and a complete renovation of the ground floor and the upstairs bathroom. Indeed, all spaces, with the exception of the bedrooms, have been redesigned to meet the needs of a family of five.

From the entrance, the design team observes a spatial organization specific to the context of the Montreal duplex. This is characterized by a central vestibule giving access to the rooms which are organized on either side of the floor. The room adjacent to the entrance is thus transformed into a boudoir, becoming a new multipurpose living area. The integration of a wall library, seating and an integrated desk helps to improve the functionality of the area. The glass partition plays a dual role by delimiting the space while allowing natural light to enter the room.

Throughout the project, the original elements of the residence are meticulously preserved and enhanced. The arches have been rounded to soften the transitions between spaces, offering a soft and fluid aesthetic. The original floor has been carefully sanded, preserving the authentic character of the house. The ceiling roses, left intact, bear witness to the former divisions of the ground floor, adding an organic texture and a unique charm to the renovated space.
