Project description
Located in Saint-Bruno on Montreal's South Shore, the Montpellier residence is set in a picturesque setting, with its winding streets and mature trees. Built in the late 1960s by a local architect, it is now listed in the cultural heritage register as an emblematic example of Mid-Century aesthetics in Quebec.
According to the descriptive sheet: « This modern residence, characteristic of North American bungalows, [...] is distinguished by its volumetric plays and clean lines. Entirely covered in brick, the house has no ornamentation, leaving all the space to the expressiveness of the materials. The residence is composed of three distinct single-storey volumes, connected by a glazed passage. »
The main challenge for the design team is to carry out a significant transformation while preserving the architectural aesthetic established by the original architect. The initial mandate focuses on the renovation of the living areas: vestibule, kitchen, dining room, living rooms and powder room. Various interventions have also been carried out to improve comfort, in particular by opening up the kitchen to offer a view of the courtyard and allow better natural light.
