Project description
The Montreal studio Vives St-Laurent presents its most recent project, the Saint-Gérard Apartment. Located in the Villeray district of Montreal, the project consists of the renovation of the ground floor of a duplex.
Built in 1935, the dwelling is part of a real estate project consisting of three connected buildings that once belonged to cousins. The clients are thus the first occupants who are not part of the family. The original architectural elements charmed the young family: "It is important for us to preserve a trace of the past."
Indeed, the dwelling stands out for the quality of the premises before the work: « When we arrived, the former owners had carefully preserved the moldings, woodwork and stained glass. There was even an original pink wallpaper put up by one of the cousins. The theme color is a nod to the front door of the duplex: in the neighborhood, it is nicknamed the pink house.», say the customers.
However, major renovations are necessary to obtain a living space open to the courtyard. The dwelling is composed of a series of rooms organized around a central corridor, characteristic of several dwellings in the Villeray sector.
