Project description
Located on the ground floor of a Montreal duplex, the Villeray project involves the redesign of a 1930s apartment to meet the needs of a growing family. Vives St-Laurent presents this project as both classic and contemporary, designed to evolve over time and adapt to the residents' lifestyle.
Respecting the architectural character of the apartment, the studio rethinks the relationships and openings between the different living areas that were previously partitioned. The mandate: to create a master suite with bathroom and closet, to create an additional powder room and to rethink the living spaces while renovating the kitchen. The objective is to optimize the existing square footage by creating ergonomic and quality spaces. The proposed layout thus offers a through-living area in which the living room, dining room and kitchen communicate with each other.
The central corridor is preserved while being more open to the living rooms. The night rooms are located on the other side of this corridor, which leads to the master suite and the new powder room. The simple layout of the kitchen is dictated by its narrow surface area: full-height furniture on either side of the central island creates a visual dynamic towards the rear facade and highlights the relationship to the courtyard.
